Nysc urges banks to grant youth corps loan

entities and individuals to emulate the Bank of Industry which provided N2bn loan to finance corps members with good business ideas.

The Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Regina Iluebbey, said this in an interview with journalists on Friday on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony of 2015 Batch B stream II at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State.

The NYSC boss said providing soft loans for corps members with business ideas would assist in making them job creators and would help in solving the problem of unemployment confronting the nation.

She said, ”The Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund of the BoI with the NYSC is a laudable idea. We in the NYSC wish the scheme could be bigger than what it is now. Making it bigger will accommodate more corps members who have good ideas.

“We want other corporate bodies, banks and even wealthy individuals to emulate the Bank of Industry in this area. Many of these corps members you see have wonderful business ideas and this type of soft loans will help them to transform their ideas into thriving business enterprises.”

Also, Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, also said in his speech that the nation must put in place various programmes which would assist the nation’s youths to be job captors rather than becoming job seekers.

The governor stated that the NYSC had been performing the functions its founding fathers had in mind, saying the call for the scrapping of the scheme was wrong.

Aregbesola said, ”Nigeria is at present faced with economic challenges because of the dwindling oil revenue. Our over dependence on oil as a source of revenue has made us neglect other sectors of the economy. This period of economic recession in which we found ourselves has compelled us to realise the need for the development of other sectors of the economy.

“It is therefore important that Nigeria must strive to become a nation of producer rather than a nation of consumers of foreign goods. We must evolve our own industrial and agricultural technologies. Adequate programmes must be put in place to assist our youths to be job creators.

NIGERIA police get additional gadgets for better security

The Lagos State Government has commissioned various gadgets which it hopes will add value to policing in the state.

Items commissioned include three helicopters, 15 armoured personnel carriers, patrol vehicles, two gun boats, 100 power bikes and other security gadgets.

The State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, expressed the view that the commissioning underscores the seriousness of the Lagos State government in ensuring the security of lives and property.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, told the gathering that the security gadgets were quite necessary, considering the strategic importance of the Lagos State in Nigeria. Lagos State is Nigeria’s commercial city.

Mr Arase said that Governor Ambode had done the right thing by giving priority to security.

NIGERIA UNDER 23 SET FOR MALI CLASH

National Under-23 team coach, Samson Siasia, says his team is ready for the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which could secure the team’s ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games.

The Dream Team VI will face Mali on Sunday at the Caroline Faye Stadium, Mbour, in what could determine the winners of Group B.

Siasia is wary of the Malians, as the country has been on a high internationally in 2015, after they finished third at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and were beaten finalists in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Nigeria are featuring in the Under-23 AFCON for the second time, after they failed to make it to the London 2012 Olympics, while Mali will be appearing at the competition for the first time.

Weapons used in Paris attack where brought from Germany

Four assault rifles used in the deadly Paris attacks were allegedly purchased from a trafficker in Germany, newspaper Bild reported Friday.

Quoting documents from the Stuttgart prosecutor’s office, the newspaper said two AK47s and two Zastava M70s were sold on November 7 by the arms dealer to a customer in Paris.

“French investigators believe that the weapons were allegedly used in the attacks in Paris,” said Bild.

The Stuttgart prosecutor was not immediately available for comment.

According to Bild, German police on November 16 arrested a 34-year-old man named Sascha W. from the southern city of Magstadt on suspicion of the illegal weapons trade.

The suspect is accused of having hawked the weapons on Darknet — a hidden network used for both licit and illicit ends — using the name “DW Guns”.

Four emails on his smartphone show that he sold “four Kalashnikovs assault rifles to an Arab in Paris”, added the newspaper.

During a raid at the suspect’s house, police also found 16 other firearms, Bild said.

President Obama serve thanksgiving dinner to the homeless

Sasha and Malia Obama joined their father at the annual turkey pardoning ceremony . This year’s turkeys were from California and named Honest and Abe

President Obama told a number of jokes including calling Abe the TOTUS – the turkey of the United States

Last year the girls’ demeanor at the ceremony was criticized by an aide who was forced to resign

The Obama girls laughed at their father’s jokes this year (although the smiles didn’t last too long)

WAYNE ROONEY slammed Manchester United for going soft after a bore draw at home to PSV Eindhoven.
Wayne Rooney slams team-mates for going soft after bore draw with PSV Eindhoven
UNHAPPY: Rooney was disappointed
Louis van Gaal's flops were held to a goalless stalemate that leaves their Champions League hopes hanging in the balance.
United now have to win at Group B leaders Wolfsburg next month to be certain of a place in the knockout stages.
Anything less could see them crash out and Rooney pulled no punches afterwards saying United had become toothless and forgotten how to kill teams off.
The United captain blasted: "I feel we showed a lack of composure, which put ourselves under pressure a lot of times.
"No, we're not (ruthless enough). I think we need to score more goals as a team.
"We could control the game and they would have to come out a bit more, but it never happened and so they can sit back a bit more and try to hit us on the break, which they nearly did a few times.
"It's a learning curve for us, but we can't go on saying it's a learning curve. We have to start turning these games into victories.
"The second half wasn't great, but first half we could have been ahead, so overall a draw is probably a fair result.
"But we're disappointed we didn't win this game."

BAD DAY: Van Gaal's side failed to score
Rooney admitted that winning in Wolfsburg, who won away to CSKA Moscow to top the group, will be tough and challenged United to show the bottle to get the result they so desperately need in 12 days time.
He added: "Going out to Germany is always a tough place to go, but we have to believe in ourselves and have the confidence in ourselves to do that.
"It's not the way we wanted it to be before this game, but that's the way it is and we believe we're good enough to go out there and get the three points.
England defender Chris Smalling admitted United only had themselves to blame for putting their European chances on the line.

TOOTHLESS: Jesse Lingard reacts to a missed chance
He said: "We had more than enough chances to win the game and make the difference in the final third.
"Coming in we saw Wolfsburg as the toughest game and we have given ourselves a lot of hard work to do now.
"We needed to move the ball quicker - and if we got the first goal it would've made it a lot easier. But we will go there with hope because we have beaten them here."

International anti terrorism is unreliable. Khamenei tells Buhari

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, has described extremist terrorist groups as enemies of Islam.
Khamenei said Muslim nations should cooperate to confront them and defend the identity of Islam.
Speaking at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Tehran, Iran on Monday, Khamenei described terrorist groups, which are acting in the name of Islam, as the enemy of the religion and said the groups and the outspoken enemies of Islam are “two blades of the same scissors”.
“The Islamic countries should protect their identity and interests against the dangerous enemies through promoting cooperation,” the Leader noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei further pointed to the US-led coalition against terrorist groups like ISIL, also known as Daesh, and Boko Haram and said it is wrong to pin hopes on the assistance of the US and the West in the fight against terrorism.
The Leader noted that Americans and some regional states are playing destructive role in Iraq and are directly supporting Daesh.
The ISIL, as a Takfiri group in Iraq and Syria, is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus and Southern Turkey.

Mancity set for juvetus mid fielder Andrea Pirlo January 2016

Recent performances at Sevilla and at home to Liverpool have highlighted just how hot and cold Manchester City can blow, so the presence of a calming influence in the team would certainly not go amiss.
Andrea Pirlo definitely fits the bill on that front and the Metro is reporting that he will join Manuel Pellegrini’s men in January.
Currently with New York City in the MLS, it makes perfect sense that the 36-year-old would be looking to return to Europe during the off-season, with the close links between the two clubs making the Etihad Stadium an obvious destination.
Frank Lampard showed last season that veteran players can still make an impact in the Premier League, whilst Pirlo himself played a significant role as Juventus wrapped up a fourth consecutive Serie A title.
The Italian international only managed four goals to Lampard’s six, but he did serve up five assists to the ex-Chelsea man’s one.
